Being The Change

Canadian provincial governments are mandated by the Federal Government to have zero emission buildings. The main cause of building emissions is from the natural gas consumed to heat buildings. One province wanted to lower their boiler natural gas consumption to reduce emissions but replacing their existing boilers was not an option. Instead, they investigated EndoTherm’s ability to improve their boiler system energy efficiency without changing equipment.

 

Innovating Efficiency

The Pace team evaluated several buildings with the support of provincial staff, operations team, and energy consultants. EndoTherm® was added to the boiler systems in early fall and natural gas consumption was monitored over the heating season.

Surprising Savings

The operations team was impressed by a near 12% reduction in gas consumption just by adding EndoTherm®. The simple payback for the EndoTherm® project was less than two years compared to a boiler replacement which would have taken 10-15 years to provide a full payback. This allowed the Province to invest the savings in more energy efficiency solutions, accelerating their carbon reduction strategy.

What is EndoTherm®?

EndoTherm® is a pioneering non-ionic surfactant additive for systems that use water for heating and cooling, including boilers, chiller, heat pumps and geothermal. Field-tested in more than 100,000 systems across North America, it has proven to significantly reduce energy bills and CO2 emissions in multi-unit residential, commercial/industrial buildings, and greenhouses.

Can Water Be Energy Efficient?

Many buildings use water or a mix of water and glycol to transport heat for space heating and cooling. The high surface tension of water limits heat transfer causing the system to run inefficiently, consuming excess energy and generating increased emissions. EndoTherm® and EndoGreen® can be added to any hydronic systems at a low concentration to reduce surface tension by 60%, significantly improving heat transfer.

By increasing heat transfer with EndoTherm®, the system will hit set-points quicker and runs less frequently to maintain heat optimizing the energy efficiency of your existing equipment.
